Gorilla Haven has not been designed to be open to the public, but owners, Steuart and Jane Dewar, have offered to provide a rare, personal tour. This is to raise funds for the project, as well as offer a unique opportunity to our neighbors and friends. What You'll See: Walking tour will include the GH facility, including gorilla villas, habitat, veterinary hospital, food preparation room, administration, group building, and get a first hand look at this one-of-a-kind, AZA (Association of Zoos and Aquariums) certified safe haven for zoo gorillas. You'll also get to meet Joe - the world’s 4th oldest male gorilla in captivity, who, at 47 years old, loves visitors, although his health and welfare will determine if and how long we’ll visit with him. When: 2010: All Regular Tours Scheduled for 11:00 a.m. (duration 2 - 3 hours). What to Expect: The tour will be rain or shine; it is on mountainous terrain and there is some climbing and walking on graveled roads involved, so dress accordingly. GH souvenirs will be available for sale and complimentary soft drinks will be provided. Parking is very limited, so please car-pool, if possible. Donations of $50 per person will be requested for people over 18 years of age. A Family Plan (up to 6) pay $50 for the first adult and $25 for the subsequent family members. Children under 12 years old by special permission only (usually not an issue); 1 adult per 2 children under the age of 18 years old please. As a 501 (c) (3) non-profit corporation, this donation is tax deductible as allowed by law. Reservations will be on a first come first served basis, confirmed upon receipt of donation and registration form. If you cannot make your scheduled tour date, you may apply your donation to a future tour, if available or consider it a donation. If GH has to cancel the tour for any reason, another date will be rescheduled (donations will be refunded to anyone who cannot make the new date). Private Tours? Yes, private tours are available and can be scheduled at a mutually convenient date and time. Cost is $500 for up to six people. This is a special opportunity to meet Joe (and who ever else is present at the time - we can't be sure - because we do not control what gorillas are at our facility) face-to-face. Contact us ahead of time and we can advise you on picking up some of Joe's favorite foods/treats to give to him on your visit. We'll also make sure you leave with a fine photograph of your meeting with this special "guy". This could be a once-in-a-lifetime present that you could give on a birthday/anniversary to that special person who loves gorillas!
