| Tuesday March 5, 2002 started out as a cold winter morning, causing us to wonder how many of the people who said they'd help at our third volunteer day would really show up. We were amazed and thrilled when 11 hearty souls appeared around 10:30 a.m. and all put in a hard day of piling up brush from the fallen black pine trees inside the habitat of Phase 1. As the workers heated up, so did the weather and by midafternoon it was pushing 60 degrees - another day in paradise! Special thanks to our 11 hard working volunteers listed left. And a special thanks to Pete Halliday and Kelly Daugherty, and the rest of our great staff, for their added hard work making the day a success! The next Volunteer Day is set for Saturday April 20, 2002, in our continuing attempts at having Volunteer Days once a month, alternating between a Tuesday and Saturdays, to enable more people to be able to come. If you live anywhere near Blue Ridge Georgia (about five miles south of where Tennessee and North Carolina come together above Georgia) and would like to join us on a volunteer day, contact Kelly Daugherty at Gorilla Haven. |
