When we first started the GH website a few years ago, we simply added new pages as things developed. Recently, however, we realized just how large the site had become, so we decided to re-organize and modify the site, hopefully making it a bit easier to navigate through and enjoy. The favorite features - our Kids' Page and Photo Galleries - remain and we'll continue to do updates whenever there's something to announce. October and November are packed with houseguests from around the world, and construction continues on a quieter, less dramatic pace, now that the Great Wall of Morganton is completed.
The
two-story Keeper/Research
building (photo left) is currently coming along nicely (windows and doors to be
added this coming week!) and we'll use the colder
winter months to work on inside jobs of this and other support buildings.
Steelwork is being manufactured for Silverback Villa and hopefully by the end of
the year we'll see that taking shape.
Our Board of Advisors is almost complete and as soon as we hear back from all members, we'll post the list (the page is currently under construction, like a lot of things at GH!). Meanwhile, we're thrilled to have Dr. Brent Swenson on board as the consulting veterinarian working along side our on-call vet, Dr. Frances Cipullo. Brent was the Chief Veterinarian for Yerkes Primate Center for over 20 years and his experience and expertise are second to none. Frances is a local vet with exotic animal experience (yes, including gorillas!) who will be on call when his services are required. A Program of Veterinary Care is being developed and we will work with zoo vets to provide the best care possible to all animals at Gorilla Haven.
