The Tacugama Chimp Sanctuary:

Realizing the urgency to find a home for legally confiscated pet chimps and those acquired through alternative means, the Government of Sierra Leone, through the help of a conservationist Bala Amarasekaran, and the conservation society of Sierra Leone, created the Tacugama Chimpanzee sanctuary. The Sanctuary is part of a larger program, all of which together will play a vital role in stopping the trade and preserving chimpanzees in the wild.

          Aim of Project:

To find a home for confiscated and rescued chimps, stop the cruel and rescued chimps, stop the cruel and wasteful trade thus securing the future of the wild population.

The Dewar Wildlife Trust, Inc. then ensures that every dollar donated by you here actually gets to Bala Amaresekaran at the Tacugama Chimp Sanctuary in Sierra Leone to help them in the wonderful work that they have been doing. The Dewar Wildlife Trust has been fortunate to get to know the directors of sanctuaries in Africa that are doing outstanding work, and we have been most impressed by what Bala has achieved under the most difficult of conditions.
